Shovelling the ash from the smokebox was one of the less savory tasks at a steam depot. The locomotive depicted here is 23-035, a class 23 passenger type which was the final and most modern design built for the Deutche Bundesbahn in the 1950's. The last were retired from Crailsheim Depot in 1976 and several have been preserved.

From the first days of steam trains there were small boys who dreamed of being engine drivers. This wee chap sitting in the drivers seat of an Ivatt Mogul in the 1960s certainly looks to be having his "Best Day Ever".

To me every old window is like a picture frame, reflecting the lives of those long gone. Davie Goggie,(top right) another old Tain character, seemed just right for this scene.
